Abstract

Diseño. Sugerencias para Vivir Mejor was a magazine devoted to interior design and decoration in Mexico; founded by Guillermo Mendizábal, it sheltered the newly graduated students of Architecture and Design, in the political context of the Guerra Sucia [Dirty War]. At the same time, it provided means for the articulation of the various agents of the art world. Collectors, gallery owners, antique dealers, artists, industrial designers, photographers and others within the cultural scene found in this magazine a meeting point, which also nurtured directly from other foreign referents. This text follows the path of collecting, of daily life, and the key players of the world of art at the beginning of 1970, as well as their involvement in this publication. This paper also depicts the history of the magazine, its more relevant sections and the role played by its founder editor, while presenting it as a valuable source for the history of art and historiography.
