Abstract

This article shows the historical circumstances that, during the Restored Republic period in Mexico, gave birth to an editorial project such as the magazine El Renacimiento (1869), whose principle was to welcome in its pages literary productions from all the brilliant writers of the country, no matter their political past or membership. This effort, headed by Ignacio Manuel Altamirano, had a considerable quorum from liberal and conservative renowned literary figures. One year later, confronting the Catholic journal La Voz de México, El Libre Pensador appeared. This paper aims to contrast the texts and political stances of both liberal publications.
